Reserve with Google in Malaysia: can diners book your restaurant from Google Maps?
Search "dinner near KLCC" on Google Maps in London or Singapore and many listings carry a "Reserve a table" button: one tap, pick a slot, done. Run the same search in Kuala Lumpur, Penang or Johor Bahru and that button is a rare sight. Most Malaysian restaurant listings offer a phone number, a website link if you are lucky, and nothing bookable at all.
Here is the surprising part: this is not because Google excludes Malaysia. Malaysia is on Google's official supported-countries list for restaurant table bookings. The button is rare for a different reason, and understanding it tells you exactly what to do today. The good news first: the single most valuable Google move for a Malaysian restaurant costs nothing, a verified Business Profile with a booking link pointing at a commission-free reservation page of your own, where every booking lands with 0% commission.
This article is the Malaysia market picture. For the general mechanics of the button, the setup steps and the mistakes that make it disappear, read our global guide to Reserve with Google; we will not repeat it here.
Is Reserve with Google available in Malaysia?
Yes, officially. Malaysia (MY) appears on the supported-countries list in Google's Actions Center platform documentation, the programme through which approved booking providers connect restaurants to Google for end-to-end dining reservations (verified October 2026). Nothing in Google's rules prevents a Malaysian restaurant from having the Reserve a table button on its listing.
But there is a catch, and it is the same catch everywhere: you cannot switch the button on yourself. It only appears when your reservation software is an approved Google partner that operates the dining integration in your country and declares your restaurant to Google. The button is not a Google Business Profile setting; it is a feature of your reservation system. So the real question for a Malaysian owner is not "does Google support Malaysia" but "does my booking provider ship the button here".
Why the button is still rare on Malaysian listings
The booking incumbent is phone and WhatsApp
Most Malaysian restaurants that take bookings at all take them by phone or WhatsApp, a documented practice from neighbourhood kedai makan up to Michelin-listed dining rooms. A WhatsApp thread is not connected to Google, so there is nothing for a Reserve button to talk to. We wrote a full guide on moving from WhatsApp chaos to a real reservation system, and the Google button is one more reason to make that move: no online diary, no button, full stop.
The consumer marketplaces do not ship it
Malaysia's two consumer booking marketplaces, TABLEAPP and Eatigo, both owned by Taiwan's FunNow group (TABLEAPP acquired in October 2020, Eatigo in September 2023), show no evidence of operating a Reserve with Google integration for their restaurants as of October 2026. Being listed on a marketplace app is not the same thing as being bookable on your own Google listing.
The global button providers barely operate here
The reservation platforms that power the Reserve button across Europe and North America have a thin Malaysian footprint. OpenTable lists only a handful of Malaysian venues, mostly hotel restaurants, in an October 2026 look at its own site. TableCheck runs reservations for Kuala Lumpur hotel dining rooms such as THIRTY8 at Grand Hyatt, and has operated Reserve with Google across Asia since 2020, but its own launch announcement listed Japan, Singapore, the UAE, Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam, not Malaysia; we found no confirmation that its Malaysian venues carry the button. The plumbing exists, the plumbers are scarce.
Who can actually switch the button on in Malaysia today
A few providers operating in Malaysia advertise the integration. Treat every claim below as the vendor's own, and confirm it in writing before you sign anything.
- UMAI, the Kuala Lumpur-headquartered reservation platform, advertises "Reserve with Google with payments" among its features, meaning a booking from Google can carry a deposit or card guarantee, which matters in a country where Chinese New Year sets are routinely secured with deposits. Third-party listings put UMAI's entry pricing at about US$80+ per month as of 2026 (roughly RM350+, and the USD billing itself is worth noting as a cost factor).
- Eat App, the Bahrain-based platform with a global Reserve with Google integration (its own setup guide), serves Malaysia; its free plan is capped at 100 guests a month, with paid plans in USD beyond that.
That is a short list, and it is the honest one: we could not verify any Malaysia-wide roster of live Reserve with Google restaurants on a Google-owned page, because Google does not publish one. What you can verify yourself takes five minutes. Before paying any provider for the button, ask for:
- a live Malaysian listing you can test: the name of a current client restaurant in Malaysia whose Google listing shows the button today, so you can tap through a real booking;
- the full pricing of a Google booking: flat subscription, any per-cover or per-booking fee, and the currency you will be billed in;
- who owns the guest data: a booking from Google should land in your diary with the guest's contact details, usable by you;
- what happens when you leave: the button disappears with the contract, so ask how an exit is handled and whether you can export your reservation book.
How these questions play out across the whole local market, prices and free plans included, is covered in our comparison of restaurant reservation systems in Malaysia.
Your Google listing is the discovery layer either way
Whether or not you get the button this year, Google Maps is where Malaysian dining decisions start, and 2026 is a particularly bad year to neglect that. Malaysia closed 2025 with 42.2 million foreign visitors, the highest in Southeast Asia (the figure includes day-trippers, as The Star's QuickCheck noted), and Visit Malaysia 2026 is pushing for more. A tourist standing on Jalan Alor or at Gurney Drive does not know your restaurant's name; they search Maps, compare photos and ratings, and act on what the listing lets them do. The Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur and Penang 2026 selection lists 151 establishments, every one of them one Maps search away from a visitor's dinner plan.
A complete, verified Business Profile with current hours, good photos and answered reviews is the prerequisite for everything else in this article, button included. Our guide to Google Business Profile for restaurants walks through the setup and the review work, and our piece on winning tourist diners in Malaysia covers how to turn that visitor traffic into seated tables.
The free alternative: a booking link on your profile
Google Business Profile lets any verified restaurant add a reservation link to its listing, no approved partner needed. A diner who finds you on Search or Maps taps the link and lands on your own booking page. It is one tap more than the integrated button, so conversion is somewhat lower, but it is universal, immediate, free, and every booking it brings carries no commission and lands with the guest's details in your hands.
For most Malaysian independents, this is the rational first step: it works today for a kopitiam-turned-bistro in Ipoh exactly as it does for a fine-dining room in Bangsar, it costs nothing, and it makes you ready to switch the integrated button on later. The restaurants that will light up the Reserve button quickly when their provider ships it in Malaysia are the ones already running a proper online diary; the ones still running their reservation book inside a WhatsApp thread will be starting from zero.
Where ViteUneTable fits, honestly
ViteUneTable is our reservation system, so here is exactly where it stands on Google visibility in Malaysia.
The free version gives you an unlimited online reservation book and your own booking page, with guest pages in 37 languages (Malay, English and Chinese included) and 0% commission forever. That booking page is precisely the link to put on your Google Business Profile today: the free move above works out of the box, with no catch. The Pack Standard at €29 per month excluding tax (about RM134 at early-October 2026 rates) adds email reminders to confirmed guests, and the Standard + Anti No-Show pack at €49 per month excluding tax (about RM226) adds a card guarantee on bookings.
Reserve with Google itself is part of our Pack Standard, and Malaysia is on Google's supported-countries list for the programme. We will be straight with you: we have not verified our Reserve button end to end on Malaysian listings, and we will not sell you a promise we have not tested. If the button is the reason you are here, ask us about your specific case before you pay for anything. The free booking page on your Google profile, by contrast, works for every Malaysian restaurant right now.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get the Reserve a table button for my restaurant in Malaysia?
You cannot activate it yourself: the button only works through a reservation software provider approved by Google that operates the dining integration for Malaysia. Providers operating in Malaysia that advertise it include UMAI and Eat App (vendor claims; confirm in writing and ask to test a live Malaysian client listing). Independently of the button, you can add a booking link to your Google Business Profile today, free.
Is Malaysia officially supported by Reserve with Google?
Yes. Malaysia appears on the supported-countries list in Google's Actions Center platform documentation for end-to-end dining reservations, verified in October 2026. Availability in practice depends on your reservation provider shipping the integration for Malaysian restaurants.
Does Google charge Malaysian restaurants a commission on table bookings?
Google itself does not charge the restaurant for bookings through the Reserve button. Your reservation provider might: some charge per seated cover on top of a subscription. Read the pricing grid and the billing currency carefully; several providers serving Malaysia bill in US dollars. A booking through your own page, linked from your Google listing, costs you nothing.
Why do so few Kuala Lumpur restaurants show the Reserve button?
Because the button requires an approved booking provider, and the providers that power it elsewhere barely operate in Malaysia. Most Malaysian restaurants take bookings by phone or WhatsApp, which Google cannot connect to, and the local marketplace apps TABLEAPP and Eatigo show no Reserve with Google integration. The restaurants most likely to carry it are hotel dining rooms on international platforms.
Is a booking link on my Google Business Profile as good as the Reserve button?
It is one extra tap for the diner, so it converts somewhat less than the fully integrated button, but it is the only option available to every Malaysian restaurant today, it is free, and it carries no commission. A fast, mobile-friendly booking page behind the link closes most of the gap, which matters for tourist guests browsing Maps on roaming data.
Can diners pay a deposit through a Google booking in Malaysia?
The Reserve with Google programme supports payments where the booking provider implements them; UMAI, for example, advertises Reserve with Google with payments (a vendor claim). For deposit-heavy moments like Chinese New Year reunion dinners, that combination is worth asking any provider about, alongside the simpler route of taking deposits through your own booking page.
